Leonard Hubbard Graver was born on 22nd November 1893 in Culford,(Thingoe Q1-1894 779) 4A: son of William and Mary Ann GRAVER (née HUBBARD).

On 29th October 1897 he was admitted to Elveden Voluntary Aided Primary School.

1901 census...Aged 7, he was at Crossroads, Elveden with his father William GRAVER [37] builder's foreman for West Raynham, Norfolk; his mother Marian [40] born Brampton, Suffolk; sister Dora G [11] born Lowestoft; brothers Stanley O. [7] born Ampton and Frank W [1 month] born Elveden.

1911 census...Aged 17 college servant, he was at Newmarket Road, Elveden with his parents, sister Dora Gladys, brothers Stanley Owen (hotel servant/billiard marker) and Frank William


He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds.
The 2nd Suffolks were at SANDPITS camp, near Trones Wood. Most were untried in combat. The War diary says of the 12th/13th they practised the companies in extended order and in attack, the knowledge of either was practically nil. They received a draft of 46 from 2/6th Cyclist and a draft of 70 OR.
On the 14th, out of 17 officers and 700 men, 4 officers and 350 men had not been in action before. Near BOIS de TAILLES they were shelled, suffering 15 casualties. Leonard Graver appears to be the only death.
